What the IS215ACLEH1C Does in an EX2100 Regulator
Field engineers reach for the IS215ACLEH1C when an EX2100 exciter loses the Application Control Layer processor that runs its regulator logic and validates the configuration on every power-up. The ACLE is the master controller of the excitation system — a QNX-based microprocessor module built on the IS200/IS215 platform shared with GE Speedtronic Mark VI equipment. This page covers the H1C hardware variant supplied at the H1CA revision.
The H1C Revision and Its Predecessors
Within the ACLE line the suffix marches forward: H1A, then H1B, then H1C, with the trailing letter — the "A" of H1CA — marking the specific revision of that variant. The ACLE is itself the successor to the older ACLA (IS215ACLA) module used in early EX2100 applications. GE's design intent is that a later ACLE revision drops into the same rack role, but because component content on the processor board has changed over the production life of the module, matching the exact suffix on your existing label remains the reliable way to guarantee compatibility. The GE Speedtronic Part Number Decoder explains how each block of the number is built.
Inside the Module: Carrier Board plus PC/104 Processor
Mechanically the ACLE is two printed circuit boards delivered as one sealed unit: an IS200ACLE carrier board and a plug-in PC/104-Plus processor board. It is not intended to be split apart in the field. The carrier board holds the dual-port RAM that links the ACLE to the IS200DSPXH1 DSPX signal-processor board across the backplane, while non-volatile compact flash retains the configuration. The card occupies two slots and mounts in the standard EX2100 racks — simplex thyristor (IS200ESBP), warm-backup thyristor (IS200EBKP), simplex regulator (IS200ERBP) and redundant regulator (IS200ERRB) backplanes.
Troubleshooting Checklist Before Replacing the ACLE
An ACLE that appears failed is often reporting a problem that lives elsewhere. Run these checks before you buy a replacement:
-
Configuration and firmware. The controller checks its toolbox configuration against the hardware every time the rack powers up. A mismatch, an interrupted download, or a corrupt compact-flash image can hold the exciter offline with a healthy board installed. Reload the application through the toolbox over Ethernet before anything else.
-
DSPX and firing circuits. The ACLE hands regulation data to the IS200DSPXH1 DSPX; a DSPX fault or a gate-drive problem can raise an alarm that reads like a controller failure.
-
Power and backplane integrity. Check the EX2100 rack supply and the seating of the card in its ESBP, ERBP, ERRB or EBKP backplane. A marginal rail or a bent pin mimics a dead processor.
-
Communications. A lost toolbox or COM link can make the module look hung. Confirm the path — the optional 336A3582P1 serial cable connects a PC COM port to the ACLE COM port — before condemning it.
-
The field side. Thyristor bridge, fuse and field faults trip the regulator from downstream; replacing the controller will not clear them.
Honest fault isolation up front saves a needless controller purchase and the outage that comes with an unplanned swap.
Companion Hardware
Boards that commonly accompany an ACLE replacement include the IS200DSPXH1 DSPX and the EX2100 thyristor and regulator backplanes. For adjacent GE control cards, see our GE Mark VI IS200 Boards and GE Speedtronic Turbine Control Boards collections.
How to Order the Right IS215ACLEH1C
Send us the complete part number and suffix (IS215ACLEH1C / H1CA), the revision printed on the label, a photo of that label, the EX2100 or EX2100e system and the machine it excites, any ControlST or toolbox version you can read from the panel, the quantity, and your timeline. The GE publication that documents this module is GEI-100584.
