IS215UCVGM09: A Factory-Built UCVG Controller Module
The IS215UCVGM09 is a GE Mark VI Speedtronic UCVG controller supplied as a factory module build, here in the IS215UCVGM09B revision. It is the same Innovation Series VME controller that runs the turbine application — reading voted data, solving the control blocks and commanding the I/O — but ordered under an M-series module number rather than the bare H1A card number. If your rack records or your failed unit call out a UCVGM09, that is the number to match.
Like the rest of the UCVG family it is a single-board computer on the VME bus, working through the VCMI communication board to reach the I/O and synchronizing to the VCMI clock. It runs the QNX real-time operating system and is configured for its specific turbine with the Control System Toolbox.
Why the M09 Build Matters When You Order
GE catalogs the UCVG both as a plain board (for example IS215UCVGH1A) and as pre-defined module builds carrying M-numbers such as M01, M06 and M09. The M-number identifies a specific factory configuration of the controller module, so it is worth matching deliberately rather than assuming any UCVG will do. We do not guess at what a given M-build contains — send us the number exactly as printed and we will confirm what it corresponds to and whether an alternative is a safe substitute for your rack.
Diagnose the Node Before Swapping the Module
Before you pull a controller module, make sure the fault really lives in it:
-
Configuration first. The controller checks its stored configuration against the hardware at every power-up; a mismatch after a change or a swap mimics a hardware failure. Confirm the load in the toolbox.
-
VCMI and rack. All I/O data reaches the controller through the VCMI across the VME bus, so a VCMI fault, backplane issue or unseated board can look like a bad module.
-
Power and thermal. Check the rack supplies and cooling; intermittent resets are often power or temperature, not the processor.
-
Which core. In a TMR rack, identify whether <R>, <S> or <T> actually voted out before replacing more than you need.
The Controller's Place in the Mark VI Rack
The UCVG module does not wire to the field. It exchanges data with the control-system database over the VME bus by way of the VCMI: process I/O in a simplex rack, or voted inputs, simplex-board inputs, outputs for hardware voting and shared controller state in a TMR rack. Its Ethernet ports link to the UDH for configuration and peer-to-peer traffic and to a second subnet for Modbus or EGD, while COM1 and COM2 provide RS-232C for setup and for a DCS connection. GE covers the controller in publication GEI-100603A.
UCVG, the M-Numbers and Neighboring UCV Controllers
Whether cataloged as an M-build or an H-card, the UCVG belongs to the UCVD / UCVE / UCVG line of Innovation Series controllers, and a UCVG can replace an earlier UCV in the same rack without a backplane change. Match the generation, confirm the revision, and keep the full number together. The GE Speedtronic Part Number Decoder explains the fields, the Mark V vs Mark VI: DS200 to IS200 guide covers migrations from the older platform, and more boards are in the GE Mark VI IS200 Boards collection.
What to Put in Your Quote Request
To match this controller module correctly, include:
- The full module number and revision exactly as printed (IS215UCVGM09 / IS215UCVGM09B), ideally with a photo of the label.
- Your turbine platform (gas, steam, LM or BOP) and whether the rack is simplex or TMR.
- Companion boards such as the VCMI if you are matching a set.
- Quantity and how urgent the outage is.
