- Watch for the pack's diagnostics. The I/O pack senses output health across on-board series resistors and raises alarms; it also reads the STAI's ID chip at startup, and a mismatch between the expected and actual board produces a hardware incompatibility fault rather than silent failure.
- If the whole node misbehaves — all channels frozen, node offline — shift attention to the PAIC pack, its power input, and its Ethernet links before touching the terminal board.
Jumper Map: Configuring the STAI Correctly
A replacement board must be jumpered to match the loops it serves, and misplaced jumpers are a classic post-swap gotcha. As documented for the STAI family:
- J1A through J8A select current or voltage input for channels 1-8.
- J1B through J8B set whether each channel's return ties to common or floats.
- J9A and J10A select the input current range (1 mA or 20 mA class) for channels 9-10, with J9B and J10B handling their return configuration.
- J0 sets output 1 for 20 mA or 200 mA service.
Photograph the jumper positions on the outgoing board before removal, and set the incoming board to match — it turns a risky changeout into a routine one.
