Three Things to Rule Out First
Before you decide the TCPS has failed, three checks will catch most of the look-alike faults and keep you from buying a board you do not need:
- The input. Confirm 125 VDC is actually reaching the board. A tripped source, a dropped <DACA> output or an AC-only feed without a converter reproduces a dead-board symptom precisely.
- The measurement. Read the rails at the silkscreened test points with a calibrated meter, or use the DIAGC display for the core. A meter that is off can fabricate a fault or lead to mis-adjusting the +5 VDC rail, which then behaves like an intermittent board failure.
- The shared bus. If several cores alarm on the same rail together, look for a grounded device on the shared 24 VDC bus rather than assuming multiple boards failed at once.
That said, the TCPS is a real wear item — it runs warm and can grow noisy over years of service — so it does fail on its own. These checks simply separate a true board fault from the far more common input, meter and grounding issues.
