What the DS200TCPS Power Supply Board Does
The DS200TCPS is the DC power supply board of the GE Speedtronic Mark V, one card per core. It takes the panel's 125 VDC bus and converts it into the regulated low-voltage supplies the core electronics run on — the logic rail (a +5 VDC output that is set with an onboard potentiometer when the board is replaced) together with the higher supplies the analog, RTD and servo circuits need, commonly documented as the ±15 VDC and ±24 VDC rails. Because it feeds the whole core, everything else in that core depends on it.
The Mark V uses a separate TCPS in each populated core, so a TMR panel carries one in <R>, one in <S> and one in <T>, with further supplies in the <C> and I/O cores. Its 125 VDC input comes from the TCPD power-distribution board in the <PD> core. The board takes DC in — hence "DC Input" in its name — and cannot be run from an AC source directly; where only AC is available, a <DACA> converter is used to produce the 125 VDC the TCPS requires.
Check the Input and the Rails Before You Buy
This is the step that saves the most wasted purchases. A core that appears dead is not always a dead TCPS — very often it is simply not receiving its 125 VDC input, so check the incoming supply before you condemn the board.
- Confirm the 125 VDC feed is actually present at the board. Missing input — a tripped source, a lost <DACA> output, an AC-only supply with no converter — mimics a failed power supply exactly.
- Measure the output rails at the board's silkscreened test points with a recently calibrated meter, or read the values on the DIAGC display for that core. An out-of-calibration meter has led technicians to mis-adjust the +5 VDC rail and create intermittent faults that only look like a bad board.
- If several cores alarm on the same supply at once, suspect a ground on the shared bus rather than simultaneous failures. A single grounded field device on a shared 24 VDC bus can pull the rail down and make every core's supply appear faulted.
The TCPS does genuinely wear — it runs warm and can grow audibly noisy as it ages — so a real board failure is common enough. But ruling out the input and the shared bus first is what keeps you from swapping a healthy supply.
Reading the DS200TCPSG1AME Part Number
This board is a DS200TCPSG1A, full number DS200TCPSG1AME. DS200 is the Mark V board series, TCPS is the DC-input power-supply function, G1 is the build group — this supply is normally supplied as group 1 — and the trailing letters (AME here) are the revision. Different revision tails, such as AME, APE, ARE or AHC, denote successive revisions of the same board, so match the revision your panel carries or confirm that a later one supersedes it. Our GE Speedtronic Part Number Decoder explains the fields, and you should read the number from the board silkscreen rather than the rack label.
Companion Boards in the Mark V Power Chain
The TCPS sits between the panel's power distribution and the core's working boards. Upstream is the TCPD power-distribution board in the <PD> core that supplies the 125 VDC; downstream are the core's processor, analog and digital I/O cards — the same cores that host boards such as the TCDA digital I/O and the TCQA analog I/O. See the GE Mark V DS200 Boards Explained guide for how the cards relate, and the GE Mark V DS200 Boards collection for stock. For upgrade planning, Mark V vs Mark VI: DS200 to IS200 covers how core power was handled in the following generation.
