IS220UCSAH1A: a new-surplus Mark VIe turbine controller
Offered as new surplus in the factory package with a one-year warranty, this IS220UCSAH1A is a GE Speedtronic Mark VIe controller, the module that runs the control application and ties together the distributed I/O for a turbine or its auxiliary systems. It is a self-contained panel-mounted computer that communicates with the I/O packs over IONet and with the operator and engineering stations over the plant network.
What the UCSA does and how it is built
The controller runs the QNX real-time operating system on a Freescale MPC8349 PowerQUICC II Pro processor at 667 MHz and stores its application and configuration on compact flash. Its faceplate provides six Ethernet jack connectors, a USB port and a column of status LEDs (Power, Boot, Online, Flash, DC and Diag, plus Link/Act per port). The design is fanless and rated for hazardous Class I, Division 2 locations, which suits it to turbine enclosures; it is not, however, certified to IEC 61508, so it is not intended for SIL-rated safety loops. In service it draws low-voltage DC control power and dissipates only a modest amount of heat, which is why no cooling fan is required.

Part number and revision: getting the match right
