IS220PTURH1AC: turbine speed, overspeed and automatic synchronizing in one Mark VIe pack
When a GE Speedtronic Mark VIe unit needs to measure shaft speed, protect against overspeed and bring the generator online in step with the grid, those jobs run through the Primary Turbine (PTUR) I/O pack. This IS220PTURH1A, revision IS220PTURH1AC, is offered in excellent used condition with a one-year warranty. It is the electrical bridge between the turbine terminal board and one or two IONet networks, converting field signals into digital data for the controller and passing control outputs back to the terminal board through a DC-62 pin connector.
What the PTUR does for synchronizing and protection
The pack reads four passive magnetic speed pickups and forms a median speed signal used for governing and for the primary overspeed trip; its input circuit is sensitive enough to detect roughly 2 RPM, so the control can tell when the shaft has truly stopped on turning gear. Generator and bus voltages feed into the pack for automatic synchronizing in concert with the GE excitation system, and the TTUR terminal board it mounts on provides the permissive synchronizing relays and drives the 52G main-breaker coil. A useful feature for spares handling is auto-reconfiguration: with it enabled in the ToolboxST Component Editor, the controller downloads baseload, boot code, firmware and parameters to a replacement pack automatically.
Before you condemn the PTUR: sensors, boards and IONet
-
Trace the signal to its source. A dropped speed or voltage reading usually starts at the pickup, the PT or the field wiring. Confirm the sensor and cable before assuming the pack is at fault.
-
Terminal board first. The DC-62 connector and the TTURH1C board sit between the pack and every field wire; a loose connector, a corroded screw terminal or a damaged board reproduces most so-called pack symptoms.
-
Check the network path. If the pack shows offline, work the IONet cable, the switch port and the controller before ordering hardware.
-
Confirm power. Verify the pack's control-power feed; the soft-start circuit means a weak supply can leave it partially powered and misbehaving.
-
Read the LEDs and ToolboxST. The front-panel LEDs plus the controller's diagnostic alarms usually reveal whether the pack, the board or the field is the real problem.
From IS220PTURH1A to H1AC: decoding the revision
IS220PTUR is the function, H1A is the hardware group, and the trailing C in IS220PTURH1AC is the hardware revision within that group. Later revision letters generally reflect running production changes; the safe practice is to match the revision to your installed pack unless GE documentation confirms compatibility. See the GE Speedtronic Part Number Decoder for the full breakdown, and Mark V vs Mark VI: DS200 to IS200 if you are mapping an older control to the Mark VIe generation.
Cores, IONet and the turbine controller
In simplex the pack runs alone with one or two IONet links to the controller. In a TMR machine, matched packs run on the <R>, <S> and <T> cores and the controller votes their outputs before acting, which is what gives the primary protection path its redundancy. The pack does not run the turbine logic itself; that lives in the Mark VIe controller, and the PTUR is its turbine-specific eyes and hands at the terminal board.
Information to include when you request pricing
Please provide the complete label part number (IS220PTURH1AC), the revision letter, a photo of the pack, the turbine model and control generation, whether the unit is simplex or TMR, quantity, and urgency. The more of this you send, the faster we can confirm the exact match.
