Signs That Look Like a Burned-Out PCCA — But Aren't

Before finalizing the purchase of this board, it's worth ruling out other causes of the same symptom:

• Faulty thyristors (SCRs) in the bridge itself — an open or shorted SCR behaves, from an operational standpoint, almost like a burned-out PCCA.
• Cables and connectors in the firing path between the board and the bridge — a corroded contact or a broken cable interrupts the gate pulse without the board itself being at fault.
• Fuses in the power assembly — blown fuses in the firing circuit or the auxiliary supply mimic the behavior of a dead board.
• Jumper configuration on the replacement board — a new PCCA set up for the wrong voltage range will fail just as quickly as the old one.

Configurable Jumpers

The PCCA uses jumpers labeled JP1, JP2, WP3, and WP4: the first two select the DC armature voltage range for the application, the last two configure how the snubber and the voltage-feedback channel connect to the bridge.
