IS220PDIOH1A: Not to Be Confused With PDIA or PDOA
"Discrete Input/Output Module" is an accurate but generic way to describe this pack, and it's worth being precise about what that means. PDIO is a specific member of GE's Speedtronic Mark VIe distributed I/O family — distinct from PDIA (contact input only) and PDOA (relay output only) — that combines both functions on a single assembly. It provides the electrical interface between one or two IONet Ethernet connections and a discrete input/output terminal board, as documented in GE's GEH-6721 Mark VIe Control System Guide.
The pack reads up to 24 contact inputs (limit switches, pressure switches, position indicators, trip signals) and drives up to 12 relay outputs, plus terminal-board-specific feedback signals, reporting to the <R>, <S>, or <T> controller over dual RJ-45 Ethernet ports. A Documented Failure Worth Knowing Before You Replace One

A PDIO failed while its gas turbine was online and alarmed a control system fault inhibit, with the pack itself showing no clear indication of what was wrong. The site unloaded the unit to full-speed-no-load and swapped in a spare, but the replacement did not load even though auto-configuration was expected to handle it. Building and downloading application code mid-resynchronization triggered a trip. The lesson from engineers who reviewed the case afterward: replacing a single I/O pack on a running TMR panel does not normally require rebuilding application code — only firmware and configuration need to go to the new pack — and a TMR system can take several minutes to fully resynchronize all three channels before the replacement shows as healthy. Other Things to Rule Out First
- The terminal board performs the first stage of signal conditioning on both inputs and outputs; a single miscounted channel is often a field-wiring issue there, not the pack.
- A relay output commanded on with its status LED staying off and monitor line false means the load isn't being sensed — a wiring or load problem, not necessarily the pack.
- Confirm you're not mixing up standard-duty and hazardous-location terminal board variants before ordering; PDIO's H1A and H1B hardware generations pair with different terminal board families.
- Rule out cabinet heat and dust, and check IONet cable condition, before condemning the pack itself.
