This IS215VCMIH1BB is a VCMI board for the GE Speedtronic Mark VI control system, the VME Communications Interface that acts as bus master for its rack. Every other board in the rack, plus the terminal boards behind them, gets tracked and reported through the VCMI on its way to the UCVE processor.
Slot 1: Why This Card's Position Matters
In a Mark VI rack, the VCMI is installed in the left-most slot, commonly called Slot 1, with the UCVE processor immediately beside it. That position isn't incidental — the VCMI has to see every board in the rack over the backplane, and it's also the only board in the rack with a direct IONet connection out to the VPRO protection boards and to VCMI cards on other cores. Because the VCMI sits at the center of both the backplane and IONet, a wide range of unrelated problems can surface as a VCMI alarm. Before ordering a replacement card, it's worth checking:
- IONet cabling and BNC connectors for corrosion or a loose connection, and the terminal resistors on the network.
- VME rack power, especially the 5V and 15V supply rails at the card.
- Whether the alarm is actually pointing at a companion VCMI on a different core rather than this one — fault codes for IONet communication failures have been documented to reference the wrong-sounding core, so read the diagnostic detail carefully rather than assuming the obvious card is at fault.
- Whether your board falls in the May 2006 to February 2009 production window covered by GE TIL-1905, which documents a socketed IONet transceiver chip issue that oxidizes over time and produces intermittent communication faults.
In several documented cases, simply powering down, pulling the card, cleaning the card edge and its rack slot, and reseating it cleared a persistent alarm without a replacement being needed at all.

IS215 is the Mark VI assembly prefix, VCMI the function, H1 the single-IONet-port design (as opposed to the three-port H2 used in TMR systems), and BB the revision.
