BPIA, BPIB, SCNV: The Board on the Other Side of This Interface
The IS200BICLH1B doesn't do anything in isolation — its whole job is to sit between the EX2100 excitation control system's main regulator board and one of several "Bridge Personality Interface" boards (BPIA, BPIB, or SCNV), which in turn wire directly to the physical IGBT power bridge. Which personality board your cabinet uses depends on the specific bridge configuration GE built for that exciter, which is why swapping a BICL alone rarely fixes a bridge-side fault if the personality board or the power module itself is the actual problem. If you're troubleshooting rather than doing a routine swap, identify which of the three personality boards is installed before ordering parts.

Beyond passing firing commands to the bridge and returning current/thermal diagnostic data, the BICL independently monitors ambient and bridge temperature, interfaces with the cabinet's PWM fan speed control, and feeds a system fault display. It's built specifically for GE's EX2100 excitation platform — not Mark VI turbine control I/O — even though both product lines share the same IS200 part-numbering scheme.
Install It Correctly the First Time
The faceplate has essentially one instruction on it: install in Slot 5 only. That's not a generic recommendation — the backplane at that position is wired specifically for this board, and an incorrect slot risks damage to the card or its neighbors. Use standard anti-static handling throughout.
Before You Assume the Board Is Bad
- Identify which bridge personality board (BPIA/BPIB/SCNV) is installed, and whether the fault is upstream at the BICL or downstream at the personality board or power module.
- Rule out fan and airflow problems before blaming the BICL's temperature-monitoring circuit on an overtemperature trip.
- After installation, confirm correct slot placement and a clean EPLD configuration cycle from the CPU at power-up — control logic runs on an onboard EPLD, not fixed hardware logic.
