What DS200UCPBG5A actually does
When one analog core of a Mark V LM stops publishing data while the rest of the panel carries on, the shortlist of suspects is short — and the DS200UCPBG5A IO Engine CPU board is on it. Marketplace listings have called this card many things; this one carries the label "turbine input output board," which is true in spirit but vague in fact. Precisely: in GE's Speedtronic Mark V LM, the control system fitted to the company's aeroderivative packages, each of the four IO Engines (<R1>, <R2>, <R3>, <R5>) is a rack whose STCA motherboard carries this daughterboard — and the daughterboard carries the 80486DX processor that is the IO Engine. GEH-6153, the platform's function manual, calls it the IO "switchboard" between the Control Engine and the I/O cards: it packages the core's conditioned signals, broadcasts them over the internal ARCNET COREBUS in scheduled packets — a 10 ms cadence for critical data — and distributes the Control Engine's outputs back to the I/O boards. Data from the digital and protective cores flows to it across the IONET serial link, with the STCA beneath it acting as network master.
Diagnose the core, not just the card
The UCPB earns its place on the suspect list only when the symptom is core-shaped. Work outward in this order:
-
One signal wrong? Stop — that is an I/O board (TCQA, TCCA), a termination module, or field wiring. Not this card.
-
Whole core silent? Now you are in UCPB territory, but check the rack's TCPS power supply (location 5) before anything else. Power failures impersonate processor failures.
-
Cabling and address. Give the COREBUS drop, its BNC fittings, and — if the board was ever swapped — the COREBUS address DIP switches a hard look.
-
Reboot and observe. GE's method is the core power switch. From the HMI, the MON_SYS pages in GEH-6153 report per-core COREBUS link status: one dark core means a local problem, all cores dark means the Control Engine side of the network.
Boards condemned on a hunch have a way of coming back "no fault found" while the outage clock runs. The sequence above takes minutes and converts a hunch into a defensible purchase.
G5A, ADA: what the letters change
GE's DS-series decode, printed in GEH-6153, maps this number cleanly. DS: GE Salem, Virginia. 200: base-level board. UCPB: the functional acronym. G5: group variation — order the group you have, since G-groups (and H-groups) are distinct designs rather than sequential revisions. A: a functional revision that is not backward compatible, folded into the catalog number DS200UCPBG5A. DA: the backward-compatible revision tail — functional revision D, artwork revision A. When you quote us DS200UCPBG5ADA from the label, we match group and catalog number exactly and treat the tail as revision history. More on the system in the GE Speedtronic Part Number Decoder.
STCA, TCQA, TCPS: the supporting cast
Every UCPB works in company. The STCA beneath it is the Turbine Communication Board and IONET master; the TCQA beside it conditions servo loops, LVDTs, thermocouples, milliamp I/O, and vibration inputs; the TCQC extends it; the TCPS feeds the rack; QTBA terminal boards land the field wiring and carry the COREBUS connections. In the protective core, triple TCEA processors vote two-out-of-three on overspeed protection and trip initiation. We keep the family together in our GE Mark V DS200 Boards collection and the broader GE Speedtronic Turbine Control Boards range — and if your engineering team is comparing legacy support against a migration, start with Mark V vs Mark VI: DS200 to IS200.
Five things that speed up your quote
- Full part number with revision tail: DS200UCPBG5ADA.
- Label photo from the outgoing board.
- Package and platform — Mark V LM, or heavy-duty Mark V Simplex/TMR — and the core position involved.
- Symptoms and what you have already ruled out.
- Quantity plus urgency, so we route stock accordingly.
