A Diagnostic Alarm Is Not Noise
One of the most respected engineers in the Mark V community likes to repeat, on a technical forum, a point that applies to any TCEA intervention: diagnostic alarms associated with the <P> protective core should not be treated as noise. Before any board swap, document exactly which diagnostic and process alarms were active, and on which of the three positions (<X>, <Y>, or <Z>). That information is what separates a quick diagnosis from days spent guessing at the cause.
Function of the Board
The DS200TCEAG1B is one of three units on the Mark V's <P> protective core, responsible for bringing shaft speed signals, flame detection, and auto-synchronizing to the overspeed protection system. Each unit has its own power supply and power-supply diagnostics.
What to Check, in the Right Order
- TCPS fuses (the core's power supply, usually position 5) before suspecting the TCEA.
- Position of every Berg jumper on the old board, recorded before removal — they need to be replicated exactly on the new board.
- PROM module revision: these must be transferred with ESD precautions from the old board, since the new one arrives with empty sockets.
- Integrity of the flat cables and connectors — corrosion on the pins is a documented cause of intermittent faults that even get mistaken for a board defect.
Questions about setpoints, trip logic, or overspeed testing aren't addressed here — follow the GE manual for your exact revision and your plant's official test procedure.
