What the DS200UPSA is — and is not

The DS200UPSAG1A is a power supply board from GE's DS200 catalog — the same Salem, Virginia numbering series that fills Speedtronic Mark V panels — built to feed control-level power to GE's excitation and drive-control hardware of that generation. Suppliers catalog it against the EX2000 excitation platform, and GE-era documentation republished in the surplus market describes the UPSA as a two-stage off-line switching supply that accepts an AC or DC line input and delivers control-level output voltages, listing it in service on GE's Innovation Series drive controls under its UC2000 name as well. What it is not: a Mark V core power supply. If a core in your Speedtronic panel has gone dark, the family to investigate is the DS200TCPS supply and the panel's power distribution hardware — not the UPSA. When a dead rack is not a dead supply

Control power failures invite expensive guesses, so spend the first half hour on the cheap possibilities:

• Incoming feed. Verify the source at the cabinet terminals — breaker, upstream distribution, connection torque — before blaming the board that converts it.
• Fuses. The UPSA carries three fuses protecting against overcurrent. A blown fuse is easy to check and cheap to replace, but treat it as evidence rather than root cause: fuses usually open for a reason, often a downstream short or a failing component, and a new fuse fed into an unresolved fault just opens again. Replace like-for-like ratings only, per the factory instructions.
• Reset and indication. The board carries a reset button and LED indication; note the LED state before and after a reset attempt — it is diagnostic information worth including in your RFQ.
• Stored charge. The electrolytic capacitors on a supply board hold energy after shutdown. Give the board time to bleed down — supplier guidance for this part calls out roughly 30 seconds after power removal — before handling it.

If the input is good, the fuses are intact, and output power is still absent or unstable, the supply itself is a legitimate suspect — and age is on your side of the argument, because these boards have been in continuous service since the 1990s.

EX2000, UC2000, and the Mark V catalog

One board, three associations, all of them defensible. The part number lives in the DS200 series, which is why it appears in Mark V-era listings, including ours. Function-wise, vendors document it as the power supply for GE's EX2000 excitation systems — the exciter cabinets that typically stand beside a Speedtronic-controlled generator — and, under its UC2000 designation, for the controller platform GE reused across drives of the same era. For your purposes, the label on the failed board settles the question: if it reads DS200UPSAG1A, this is the replacement family, whatever the cabinet around it is called.

The G1A suffix and revision tails

The DS-series decode applies across the catalog: DS marks GE Salem; 200 a base-level board; UPSA the functional acronym; G1 the group; and the following A a functional revision that is not backward compatible — making DS200UPSAG1A the catalog number. Everything after that is the backward-compatible revision record, functional then artwork: FD on this unit. Field labels in this family also read DS200UPSAG1ADB and DS200UPSAG1AGD; all share the G1A catalog base. Match the base exactly, tell us the tail, and we will match or advise.
