The DS200TCPS DC Input Power Supply
Before the processors, analog channels and servo drivers in a Mark V core can do anything, the DS200TCPS has to give them clean DC. It is the Speedtronic Mark V's core power supply: it accepts the 125 VDC distribution bus and produces the regulated rails the core depends on — the +5 VDC logic supply, set at the board with a potentiometer, and the analog and servo rails usually documented as ±15 VDC and ±24 VDC. A weak or noisy TCPS rarely fails in isolation; it shows up as odd behavior spread across the core it feeds.
The board is a DC-input device, which is where "DC Input" in its description comes from. Its 125 VDC is delivered by the TCPD power-distribution board in the <PD> core, and it cannot be supplied from AC directly — an AC-only site uses a <DACA> converter to make the 125 VDC. The Mark V provides one TCPS per core, so a TMR panel runs separate supplies in <R>, <S> and <T>, plus the <C> and I/O cores.
Why "the Board Is Dead" Often Isn't the Board
It is worth being skeptical of a "dead power supply" diagnosis, because on the Mark V that conclusion is wrong more often than people expect. Work through the cheap checks before you commit to a new board:
- Verify the 125 VDC input at the board. If the feed is missing — a tripped source, a failed <DACA>, or an AC supply with no converter — the board will look dead when it is perfectly good.
- Measure the rails at the silkscreened test points with a calibrated meter, or read them on the DIAGC display. An uncalibrated meter can invent a fault, or push a technician to mis-set the +5 VDC rail and create an intermittent one that mimics a failing board.
- If more than one core alarms together, treat a shared-bus ground as the prime suspect. A single grounded field device on a shared 24 VDC bus can drop the rail across several cores at once and imitate multiple supply failures.
The caveat is honest: the TCPS is a genuine wear item, it runs warm, and it can become noisy as it ages, so it does fail. Ruling out the input and the shared bus simply makes sure the board you buy is the board you actually need.
The Revision Tail on a Group 1 TCPS
This unit is a DS200TCPSG1A, full number DS200TCPSG1APE. The parts read as DS200 (Mark V series), TCPS (DC-input power-supply function), G1 (group — the TCPS is normally supplied as group 1), and APE (revision).
