As with NetApp, EMC arrays expect EMC-firmware drives — a generic drive of matching capacity will typically not be adopted by the array. We quote against the EMC part number so the drive is recognised on insertion.
What to include in your RFQ: the EMC part number (usually printed on the drive carrier or component label), the array model and generation, quantity, and preferred condition. If you're expanding a DAE, tell us the existing drive capacity, RPM and type — the array will want a matching set for the RAID group. Much of this installed base is beyond standard support, which is exactly where third-party spares keep systems in service.
